Vegetables Can Prevent Cataracts

Vitamin A is found in red fruits and vegetables is known as a weapon for healthy eyes.
However, consumption of green leafy vegetables or dark color is also considered to protect the eyes from ultraviolet rays cause cataracts.

This is a study released by Ohio State University in Calombus, the United States.

Green vegetables is believed to have two antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin protect the eye condition in order to stay healthy. The content is mostly found in vegetables such as kale, spinach and collard greens.
Researchers tested the ability of both these antioxidants against UV rays (ultra violet) by involving the cells of the human eye lens.

Each sample was given exposure to UV rays in the same level. It's just that most of the samples added lutein and zeaxanthin. As a result, the sample is given additional lutein and zeaxanthin decrease damage level to 60 percent.

The researchers also tested the samples with vitamin E and the results show that other nutrients besides vitamin A also provides protection against eye damage due to UV rays.

Vitamin E can reduce the damage about 25 to 32 percent. That means that lutein and zeaxanthin can benefit a much larger dose may be far fewer than vitamin E or other nutrients.

During this new cataracts can be treated surgically. Therefore, this study is expected to play a major role in delaying or preventing the development of the disease in the community.
